The amount exceeded the legal limit of $10,000 that travelers are required to declare when entering or leaving the United States territory. As a result, Farruko was charged with failing to declare transportation of monetary instruments in excess of $10,000, a federal offense.
Following his arrest, he was released on bail, and the case proceeded through the legal system. In June 2018, he pleaded guilty to the charges against him. He admitted that he had failed to declare the full amount of cash he was carrying and acknowledged his mistake. He was subsequently sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to pay a fine of $15,000.
