ARREST
In April 2018, he was arrested at the Isla Grande airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, upon his return from a trip to the Dominican Republic. Customs agents conducted a routine search and found approximately $51,000 in cash hidden in Farruko’s shoes, luggage, and a backpack. The amount exceeded the legal limit of $10,000 that travelers are required to declare when entering or leaving the United States territory. As a result, Farruko was charged with failing to declare transportation of monetary instruments in excess of $10,000, a federal offense.
Following his arrest, he was released on bail, and the case proceeded through the legal system. In June 2018, he pleaded guilty to the charges against him. He admitted that he had failed to declare the full amount of cash he was carrying and acknowledged his mistake. He was subsequently sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to pay a fine of $15,000.
The incident sparked public discussion and scrutiny, as Farruko’s arrest highlighted the legal and financial responsibilities that come with international travel, particularly regarding the declaration of large sums of money. Despite the controversy surrounding his arrest, he continued his music career and remained active in the Latin music scene.
