Iman Vellani is a Canadian actress known for her role as Kamala Khan in the upcoming Marvel Studios series “Ms. Marvel.” She was born on September 8, 2002, in Toronto, Canada. Her parents’ names have not been publicly disclosed.
EARLY LIFE
Iman Vellani, originally from Karachi, Pakistan, relocated to Canada at the age of one and was brought up in the Ismaili faith, a division of Shia Islam. She completed her education at Unionville High School in Markham, Ontario.

In 2019, she was chosen as a part of the TIFF Next Wave Committee during the Toronto International Film Festival. Prior to landing the role of Ms. Marvel, which happened towards the end of her high school years, Iman Vellani had intended to pursue studies in integrated media at the Ontario College of Art & Design University.
CAREER
In September 2020, it was disclosed that Iman Vellani had secured the role of Kamala Khan in Marvel Studios and Disney+’s Ms. Marvel series. Vellani’s aunt forwarded her a casting call, leading her to submit a self-tape audition and eventually auditioning in person in Los Angeles.
Iman Vellani underwent two screen tests, one in February and another virtually over Zoom in June. During her Zoom audition, Iman Vellani revealed her genuine enthusiasm for the Avengers, mirroring Kamala Khan’s character traits. Ms. Marvel premiered on Disney+ on June 8, 2022, marking Vellani’s debut, and received widespread acclaim for both the series and her portrayal of Kamala Khan.

Iman Vellani reprised her role as Kamala Khan in the 2023 film The Marvels, receiving praise for her performance despite mixed reviews of the film. She is set to voice an animated version of Kamala Khan in Disney+’s Marvel Zombies series, an adaptation of the What If…? Episode.

IN INTERVIEW
During an interview with Polygon ahead of the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, Iman Vellani shared that she has received assurance from the MCU team about Ms. Marvel’s future involvement. However, she humorously noted that the details are limited, likening the
information to breadcrumbs from which she tries to piece together a larger picture. Vellani’s last MCU project was “The Marvels,” which hinted at the possibility of a teenage superhero team including Ms. Marvel.

It’s uncertain whether Vellani might also be involved in future X-Men projects, given Ms. Marvel’s mutant status. However, with Marvel Studios undergoing changes and uncertainties in their plans, the timeline and direction for incorporating these characters into the MCU remain unclear.
In other interview with Marvel.com , Imaan says, In reflecting on my experience working on this comic, I realized that while I didn’t necessarily learn new facts about Ms. Marvel herself, the process of comic book writing was entirely new to me and overwhelming.
Many of the scenes we crafted for the comic resonated with me personally, as they were drawn from my own experiences and reflections. Given the significant changes in my life and Ms. Marvel’s trajectory in the comics over the past few years, I aimed to incorporate these learnings into her story.

Ultimately, I strived to authentically represent Ms. Marvel’s essence and what makes her distinct as a superhero, showcasing her timeless appeal. It’s been an enriching learning experience, allowing me to highlight everything I admire about this character and her abilities.
